The chemical equation representing the decomposition of NaHCO_{3} :

 2NaHCO_{3}(aq) -----> Na_{2}CO_{3}(aq) + H_{2}O (g) + CO_{2}(g)

 CO_{2} and H_{2}O being gases are lost after decomposition.

Mass of the gases lost = 0.248 g

2 mol  NaHCO_{3}  give 1 mol  CO_{2}  and 1 mol  H_{2}O

2 x 84 g  NaHCO_{3}  give 44 g  CO_{2}  and 18 g  H_{2}O

Total mass of gaseous products = 18 + 44 g = 62 g

Mass of NaHCO3 that can give 0.248 g CO2 and H2O:

 0.248 g CO_{2} + H_{2}O   × \frac{168 g NaHCO_{3}}{62 g H_{2}O+CO_{2}}

= 0.672 g  NaHCO_{3}

Mass % of  NaHCO_{3} = \frac{0.672 g}{2 g}*100   = 33.6 %

Mass % of  Na_{2}CO_{3} = 100 - 33.6 =   <u>66.4 % Na_{2}CO_{3}
