Answer :

Mass of water = 2kg = 2000g

Initial temperature = 100°C

Final temperature = 40°C

We have to find amount of heat released.

Specific heat capacity is measured as the amount of heat required to increase temperature of 1g substance by 1°C.

  • Q = m × s × ∆T

Q denotes heat energy

m denotes mass

s denotes specific heat capacity

∆T denotes change in temperature

SHC of water = 1 cal/g °C

⭆ Q = m × s × ∆T

⭆ Q = 2000 × 1 × (100-40)

⭆ Q = 2000 × 60

Q = 120000cal = 120kcal

Cheers!
