The observation is:

  • BLUE LITMUS TURNS RED

But why ?

  • First of all, vinegar is chemically acetic acid, it's IUPAC name is ETHANOIC ACID.

  • So, vinegar is an acidic substance.

  • Now, litmus is an chemical indicator of acidic/basic environment.

  • Now, blue litmus turns red in acidic environment, and red litmus turns blue in basic medium.

Hence, when blue litmus is put in a test tube with vinegar, there is change in ionisation of litmus, hence there is change in colour to red.
