The observation is:
- BLUE LITMUS TURNS RED
But why ?
- First of all, vinegar is chemically acetic acid, it's IUPAC name is ETHANOIC ACID.
- So, vinegar is an acidic substance.
- Now, litmus is an chemical indicator of acidic/basic environment.
- Now, blue litmus turns red in acidic environment, and red litmus turns blue in basic medium.
Hence, when blue litmus is put in a test tube with vinegar, there is change in ionisation of litmus, hence there is change in colour to red.
Hope It Helps
