They keep their young ones in the pouch as the young offspring are too immature and have weak bodies to sustain in the world...... So the mother uses her pouch and keeps the baby safe there by providing food and shelter.... Ther are released when thery are capable of living on their own

Monotremes young hatch from eggs ,placental young and spend lengthy pregnancies connected to their mothers by umbilical cords and placental, and marsupial young complete most of the fetal development attached to nipplesin their mothers pouches
