2sec2a = tan b + cot b can be written as
2sec2a = sinb/cosb + cosb/sinb
2sec 2a = sin^2b+cos^2b/cosb*sinb (sin^2theta+cos^2theta=1)
2 sec 2a = 1/cosb*sinb
sec 2a = 1/2(cosb)(sinb)
1/cos2a = 1/sin2b
cos 2a = sin 2b.
2a + 2b = 90 degrees
2(a+b) = 90 degrees
a + b = 45 degrees.
Hope this helps!
