| 2x + 1 | = | x + 3 |

Let 2x + 1 = a ; and x + 3 = b

From the question:

|a| = |b|

|a|² = |b|²

a² - b² = 0

(a + b)(a - b) = 0

Substituting values

(2x + 1 + x + 3)(2x + 1 - x - 3) = 0

(3x + 4)(x - 2) = 0

On comparing,

3x + 4 = 0

3x = -4

x = -4/3

and ,

x - 2 = 0

x = 2

So,

x € { 2, -4/3 }
