To find : factors of 2x^{2} + 3x + 1

Solution :

  • To find factors of given algebraic expression 2x^{2} + 3x + 1  we split middle term 3x such that product of factors is last term of expression and  sum or difference is middle term .
  • Therefore , we write ,

            2x^{2} + 3x + 1 = 2x^{2} - 2x - x + 1

         taking common factors

                                = 2x ( x - 1) -1( x - 1)

                                = ( 2x - 1 ) ( x - 1)

       Hence factors of 2x^{2} + 3x + 1 are ( 2x - 1 ) ( x - 1).
