Answer: Using the quadratic formula , where a = √2 b = -3 c = -2√2

Discrminant = b^2 - 4ac

= 9 - 4(√2 )(-2√2)

= 9 + 8(2)

= 25

Therefore ,

x = (-b + √25)/2a or x = (-b - √25)/2a

x = (3+5)/2(√2) or (3-5)/2(√2)

x = 8/2√2 = 4/√2

Or

x = -2/2√2 = -1/√2

Therefore

(x - 4/√2)(x + 1/√2) = √2x^2 - 3x - 2√2

There is also one other way of solving it

That is by multiplying the given equation by √2 and then factorising it instead of using the quadratic formula for finding the factors .
