Answer:
Equation: 2x² - 4x - 1 = 0
Dividing by the coefficient of 'x²' we get,
=> x² - 2x - 1/2 = 0
Adding the half of coefficient of x we get,
Half of coefficient of x = 2 / 2 = 1
Hence we get,
=> x² - 2x + 1 - 1/2 = 1
Transposing -1/2 to the RHS we get,
=> x² - 2x + 1 = 1 + 1/2
=> ( x - 1 )² = 3/2
Taking Square root on both sides we get,
=> x - 1 = ± √ ( 3/2 )
=> x = 1 ± √ ( 3/2 )
This is the required answer !
