 \alpha ^{2}  +  \beta^{2}  \\  = ( \alpha  +  \beta )^{2}  -  2 \alpha  \beta  \\  =( 4 \div 2)^{2}  - 2 \times  - 3 \div 2 \\  = 4  + 3 \\  = 7
