2x^2 - 5x - 3 = 0

2x^2 - (6 - 1)x - 3 = 0

2x^2 - 6x - x - 3 = 0

2x (x -3) - 1 (x - 3) = 0

(x - 3) (2x - 1) = 0

Now,

x - 3 = 0

x = 3

And,

(2x - 1) = 0

2x = 1

x = 1/2

Hence, 3 and 1/2 are the values of x
