your \: question \: is \:  =  &gt;  \\   &gt;  &gt;  \: \frac{2}{3} x &lt; 1 \\ now \: we \: put \: some \: value \: of \: x \: becoz  \\ \: we \: have \: to \: show \:  \frac{2}{3} x \: is \: smaller \: \\  than \: 1 \: so \\ if \: we \: will \: put \: the \: value \: of \ \\  x \:  =  - 3   \: then \\  \frac{2}{3}  \times  - 3 =   \frac{ - 6}{3}  =  - 2 \: which \: is \:  \\ smaller \: than \: 1
