How to solve 5x + 7y = 66

2x - 3y = -20

By elimination method.

Expert Answer:

5x + 7y = 66 ... (1)

2x - 3y = -20 ... (2)

Multiplying (1) by 3 and (2) by 7, we get

15x + 21y = 198 ... (3)

14x - 21y = - 140 .... (4)

Adding (3) and (4), we get

19x = 58

→ x = 2

From (1),

5(2) + 7y = 66

→ 7y = 56

→ y = 8

The solution is x = 2 and y = 8.
