Answer:

x = 170/87 and y = -7/87

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

2x + 3y = 11/3       .......(1)

5x - 7y = 31/3      ........(2)

Multiplying equation (1) by 5 we get

10x + 15y = 55/3       ......(3)

Multiplying equation (2) by 2 we get

10x - 14y = 62/3     ......(4)

Subtracting equation (4) from equation (3) we get

( 10x + 15y ) - ( 10x - 14y ) = 55/3 - 62/3

                         15y + 14y = ( 55 -62 ) / 3

                                  29y = -7/3

                                     y = -7/(3×29) = -7/87

                ⇒                  y = -7/87

NOW

Putting  ''y = -7/87'' in equation (1) we get

                  2x +3 (-7/87) = 11/3

                      2x - 21/87 = 11/3

                 ⇒              2x = 11/3 + 21/87

Taking L.C.M we get

                                   2x = 340/87

                  ⇒                x = 170/87

So

x = 170/87 and y = -7/87
