GIVEN :

Equations :

2x+3y=5

x+2y=18

2x + 3y = 5 ------- × 1

x + 2y = 18 ------- × 2

-----------------

2x + 3y = 5

2x + 4y = 36

(-)

-------------------

-y = -31

y = 31

Substitute y in eq - (1) to find x

2x + 3(31) = 5

2x + 93 = 5

2x = 5 - 93

2x = -88

x = -88/2

x = -44

Therefore, x = -44 and y = 31.

Answer:

x = - 44 and y = 31.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

2 x + 3 y = 5

2 x = 5 - 3 y  .... ( i )

x + 2 y = 18

Multiply by 2 we get

2 x + 4 y = 36

2 x = 36 - 4 y  .... ( ii )

From ( i ) and ( ii ) we have

5 - 3 y = 36 - 4 y

4 y - 3 y = 36 - 5

y = 31

Now put y = 31 in ( i )

2 x = 5 - 3 y

2 x = 5 - 3 × 31

2 x = 5 - 93

2 x = - 88

x = - 44

We get x = - 44 and y = 31.

Now see the graph there is intersection point at ( - 44 , 31 ) which show

value of x and y is correct.

Thus we get answer.
