let 2x + 3y = 6 be eqn ( i)

5x+ 8y = 9 be eqn ( ii)

multiply eqn( i ) by 5

= 10x + 15y = 30

multiply eqn ii by 2

10x + 16y = 18

- 10x - 15y = - 30

y = -12

2x - 36= 6

2x= 42

x = 21
