Split 2x + 4y - 8xy - 1

into two 2-term polynomials

+ 4y + 2x and - 8xy - 1

This partition did not result in a factorization. We'll try another one:

2x + 4y and - 8xy - 1

This partition did not result in a factorization. We'll try another one:

2x - 8xy and + 4y - 1

This partition did not result in a factorization. We'll try another one:

2x - 1 and - 8xy + 4y

This partition looks good

1.2 Pull out from each binomial separately

2x - 1 = 1 • (2x - 1)

- 8xy + 4y = - 4y • (2x - 1)

1.3 Add up to arrive at the desired factorization

(1 - 4y) • (2x - 1)

Factorization found :

(1 - 4y) • (2x - 1)
