2x - 5(x + 3) = 1

=>2x - 5x - 15 = 1

=>-3x = 16

=>x= -16/3

2x - 5x - 15 = 1

 - 3x - 15 = 1

 - 3x = 1 + 15

 - 3x = 16

x =  \frac{16}{ - 3}
