Taking the first equation,

2x + 5y = 16

2x = 16 - 5y

x = 16 - 5y / 2

Substituting this value of 'x' in the second equation..

3x + 2y = 13

3 (16 - 5y / 2) + 2y = 13

48 - 15y / 2 + 2y = 13

48 - 15y + 2y = 13 × 2

48 - 13y = 26

13y = 48 - 26

13y = 22

y = 22/13

Now,

x = 16 - 5y / 2

x = 16 - 5 (22/13) / 2

x = 16 - 110/26

x = 416 - 110 / 26

x = 306/26

x = 153/13
