If the variable is not in the square root then it is the linear equation

here is ur answer:

A linear equation is whose highest power is 1.

√2x+√5y =16

 {2}^{ \frac{1}{2} } x +  {5}^{ \frac{1}{2} }y = 16 \\

here highest power is not 1, so it is not a linear equation.
