2x-5y=-4--------(1)

2x+y=8--------(2)

Subtracting (2) from (1),

-6y=-12

y=2

Substituting y=2 in (2),

2x+2=8

2x=8-2

2x=6

x=3

Answer:

x=3 and y=2

2x - 5y = -4 ------------>(1)

2x + y = 8 -------------->(2)

from elimination method

multiplying equation (1) and (2) with 1

2x - 5y = -4

2x + y = 8

-__-__-____

-6y = - 12

6y = 12

y = 12/6

y = 2

For x

2x + y = 8

putting value of y in the above equation

2x + 2 = 8

2x = 8 - 2

x = 6/2

x = 3

  • x = 3 and y = 2
