Answer:

x = 1, y = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

2x - 5y + 8 = 0 .....(1)

x - 4y + 7 = 0

x = 4y - 7 .....(2)

Substitute x = 4y - 7 in equation (1)

2x - 5y + 8 = 0

[2 × (4y - 7)] - 5y + 8 = 0

8y - 14 - 5y + 8 = 0

3y - 6 = 0

3y = 6

y = 6/3

y = 2

If y = 2 then from equation (2)

x = 4y - 7

= (4 × 2) - 7

= 8 - 7

= 1
