2x - 5y = -8....(1)

x - 4y = -7 ......(2)

By elimination method :

On Multiplying by 1 and by 2 in question (1) and (2) respectively :

2x - 5y = -8

2x - 8y = -14

On subtracting :

3y = 6

=> y = 2

On putting the value of y in equation (1) :

2x - 5(2) = -8

=> 2x = -8 + 10 = 2

=> x = 1

Required values of x = 1 and y = 2

ANSWER:-

So this is linear equation in two variables. Hence, the solutions of such equations are infinitive.

Now, for the (1) equation, let's suppose that x= 5 then,

2 (5) - 5y = -8

=> 10 - 5y = -8

=> -5y= -8-10

=> -5y = -18

=> y = 18/5 or 3.6

[Note- you may change the value of x or y as per your wish]

Now, for the 2nd one, let's suppose the value of y to be 3. Then,

x - 4(3) = -7

x-12= -7

x= -7+12

x=5
