Solution :

The given two equations are

  • 2x + 5y = 8/3 .....(i)
  • 3x - 2y = 5/6 .....(ii)

From (i), we get

2x = (8/3) - 5y

⇒ x = (4/3) - (5y/2) .....(iii)

Substituting x = (4/3) - (5y/2) in (ii), we get

3 {(4/3) - (5y/2)} - 2y = 5/6

⇒ 4 - (15y/2) - 2y = 5/6

⇒ (15y/2) + 2y = 4 - (5/6)

⇒ (15y + 4y)/2 = (24 - 5)/6

⇒ 19y/2 = 19/6

⇒ y = 1/3

Putting y = 1/3 in (iii), we get

x = (4/3) - (5/6)

⇒ x = (8 - 5)/6

⇒ x = 3/6

⇒ x = 1/2

Therefore, the required solution is

x = 1/2 & y = 1/3
