Step-by-step explanation:

1. x=3y-12

Solution: 2x-6y divided by -24

2x=-24(-6y)

2x=6y-24

x=(6y-24) divided by 2

x=(6y-24)x 1/2

x=6y x 1/2 -24 x 1/2

x=3y-24x1/2

x=3y-12

Question -

Solve the following pair of linear equations by substitution method -

2x-6y= - 24 and x= 5y-22

Solution -

Given equations,

2x-6y= - 24........1)

x= 5y-22.....2)

Now,

Substituting the value of x in equation 1) we will get -

=>2(5y-22)-6y= - 24

=>10y - 44 -6y = - 24

=> 4y - 44= - 24

=> 4y = - 24+44

=> 4y = 20

=> y =20/4

=> y = 5

Now, substituting the value of y in equation 2) we will get -

=> x=5×5-22

=>x =25-22

=> x =3

Verification -

=> 2x - 6y = - 24

Putting the values of x and y

=>2×3 - 6×5= - 24

=> 6 - 30= - 24

=> - 24 = - 24

Also,

=> x= 5y - 22

Putting the values x and y

=>3 = 5×5-22

=>3 =25-22

=>3= 3

L.H.S = R. H. S

Hence Verified

Therefore the value of x is 3 and y is 5
