Concept

An equation is basically a relationship between two variables, expressed in equal to form. Elimination method of solving two equation is the method in which one variable is to be eliminated to get the value of another.

Given

2x+6y=5xy and 6x-2y=5xy

To find

Solve the equations through elimination method.

Explanation

Step 1: firstly see whether the coefficients of a variable are equal in both equations or not. In our case not.

Step 2: Make coefficients of a variable equal in both equations:

2x+6y=5xy

6x-2y=5xy

Multiply first equation by 3

6x+18y=15xy

6x-2y=5xy

Now subtract second equation from 1

6x+18y-6x+2y=15xy-5xy

20y=10xy

20=10x

x=2

Put the value of x in 2x+6y=5xy to get the value of y

2*2+6y=5*2*y

4+6y=10y

4=4y

y=1

Hence the value of x is 2 and value of y be 1.
