2x/a + y/b = 2   -------- (1)

x/a - y/b = 4   -------- (2)

On solving (1) & (2) * 2, we get

2x/a + y/b = 2

2x/a - 2y/b = 8

----------------------

          3y/b = -6

         3y = -6b

           y = -2b   -------- (3)

Substitute (3)  in (2), we get

x/a - y/b = 4

x/a + 2b/b = 4

x/a + 2 = 4

x/a = 2

x = 2a.

Hope it helps!
