The equations are:
 \frac{2x}{a} +  \frac{y}{b} = 2      ...................(1)

 \frac{x}{a} -  \frac{y}{b}  = 4        .....................(2)

Since the coefficients of y are same in both equation with opposite signs, add them.
We get,

3x/a= 6
⇒x = 6a/3
⇒x = 2a 

Put the value of x in equation(1)
 \frac{2(2a)}{a} +  \frac{y}{b}  = 2 \\ 4 +  \frac{y}{b} = 2 \\  \frac{y}{b} = 2-4 =-2 \\ y = -2b
