2 {x}^{2}  + 11x + 42 = 0
x =   \frac{ - 11 +  -  \sqrt[2]{121 - 4 \times 2 \times 42} }{2 \times 2}
x =  \frac{ - 11 +  -  \sqrt{121 - 336} }{4}
x =  \frac{ - 11 +  -  \sqrt{ - 215} }{4}
x =  \frac{ - 11 +  \sqrt{ - 215} }{4}

or
x =  \frac{ - 11 -  \sqrt{ - 215} }{ 4}

in  \: question \: you \: have \: not \: mentioned \: what \: is \: equal \: to \: 2 {x}^{2}  + 11x + 42 \: thats \: why \: i \: have \: assumed \: 0
