2x^2+x-6 = 0

x^2+x/2-3 = 0

x^2+x/2 = 3

x^2+2.x.1/4 = 3

Adding (1/4)square on both the sides

x^2+2.x.1/4+(1/4)^2 = 3+(1/4)^2

(x+1/4)^2 = 3+1/16

(x+1/4)^2 = 49/16

x+1/4 = + or - root of 49/16

x+1/4 = + or - 7/4

    x = + or - 7/4 - 1/4

x = 7/4-1/4

   = 6/4

   = 3/2

and

x = -7/4-1/4

  = -8/4

  = -2

The roots are 3/2 and -2
