2x + y = 10 --------(I)

2x - y  = 2 ---------(II)

Adding (I) and (II), we get

2x+2x+y-y = 10 - 2

4x = 8

x = 2

From equation (I), y = 10 - 2x

y = 10 - 4

y = 6

Hence x = 2 and y = 6
