Answer:

2y=x+4

y=x+4/2

2x+y=10

2x+x+4/2=10

5x+4=20

5x=16

x=16/5

y=x+4/2

y=16/5+4÷2

y=36/8

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

2x + y = 10 and 2y = x + 4

Let 2x + y = 10---------eq ( 1 ) and

x - 2y = - 4---------eq ( 2 )

Multiplying eq. ( 2 ) by 2, we get

2 × [ x - 2y = - 4 ]

2x - 4y = - 8--------eq ( 3 ) ( say).

On subtracting eq ( 1 ) - eq ( 3 ) , we get

2x + y - ( 2x - 4y ) = 10 - ( - 8 )

2x + y - 2x + 4y = 10 + 8 (∵ - × + = - ; - × - = + )

5y = 18

y = 18 / 5.

On substituting " y = 18/5 " in eq ( 1 ) , we get

2x + 18/5 = 10

2x = 10 - 18/5

2x = 50 - 18/5

2x = 32/5

x = 32/5 × 1/2

x = 16/5.

Hence, the values of x and y are 16/5 and 18/5.
