x+2y=9

on addition

3x+3y=21

3(x+y)=21

x+y=7

x=7-y

putting value of x in

2x+y=12

2(7-y)+y=12

14-2y+y=12

14-y=12

y=14-12

y=2

then x= 7-y

x=7-2

x=5
