Answer:

x = 3

y = 7

Solution:

The given equations are :

2x + y = 13 --------(1)

8x - 5y = - 11 -------(2)

Now,

Multiplying both sides of eq-(1) by 5 ,

We get ;

=> 5(2x + y) = 5•13

=> 10x + 5y = 65 -------(3)

Now,

Adding eq-(2) and (3) , we get ;

=> 8x - 5y + 10x + 5y = - 11 + 65

=> 8x + 10x = - 11 + 65

=> 18x = 54

=> x = 54/18

=> x = 3

Now,

Putting x = 3 in eq-(1) , we get ;

=> 2x + y = 13

=> 2•3 + y = 13

=> 6 + y = 13

=> y = 13 - 6

=> y = 7

Hence,

The required values of x and y are 3 and 7 respectively.
