Given:

2x + y=14and x+y=2

To Find:

Find the value of x and y

Solution:

Linear equations are mathematical statements that are connected by equal to sign between the algebraic expressions, and a linear equation in two variables is a linear equation with two variables in it.

The order of the linear equation is one and there can be more than one variable in the linear equation.

The given equations 2x+y=14 and x+y=2 are linear equations in two variables and we need to find the values of x and y,

2x+y=14     -(1)

x+y=2       -(2)

Subtracting both the equations with each other we have,

2x+y-x-y=14-2

x=12

Now substituting the value of x in equation 2 to get the value of y,

x+y=2

12+y=2

y=-10

Hence, the value of x and y are 12 and -10 respectively.
