Topic :-

Linear Equations in Two Variable

Given :-

2x + y = 3

x + 3y = -1

To Find :-

Value of x and y graphically.

Solution :-

We will draw the graph of given lines and then search for intersection point of the drawn lines. The coordinates of intersection point will be the solution of given line.

Graph for :

2x + y = 3

Put x = 0 in given equation,

2x + y = 3

2(0) + y = 3

y = 3

Mark point (0, 3) on graph.

Now, put y = 0 in given equation,

2x + y = 3

2x + 0 = 3

x = 3/2

Mark point (3/2, 0) on graph.

Jôin the two obtained points to get the graph of line.

Graph for :

x + 3y = -1

Put x = 0 in given equation,

x + 3y = -1

0 + 3y = -1

y = -1/3

Mark point (0, -1/3) on graph.

Now, put y = 0 in given equation,

x + 3y = -1

x + 3(0) = -1

x = -1

Mark point (-1, 0) on graph.

Jôin the two obtained points to get the graph of line.

Search for intersection point,

Red line represents line of 2x + y = 3.

Blue line represents line of x + 3y = -1.

We can observe that (2, -1) is the intersection point.

Hence, x = 2 and y = -1.

Answer :-

x = 2 and y = -1.
