x = -1

y = -2

Explanation:

Given Equation:

1. 2x + y = -4

2. 5x - 3y = 1

To find:

x and y

Using Elimination Method,

2x + y = -4 ==> 1

5x - 3y = 1 ==> 2

Multiply by 3 in the equation1

3(2x+y=-4)

6x+3y=-12 ==>3

Solve equation 2 and 3 using elimination method

5x - 3y = 1

6x+3y=-12

----------------

11x =-11

-----------------

11x =-11

x = -11/11

x =-1

Substitute x value in equation 1

==> 2x + y = -4

==>  2(-1)+y =-4

==> -2+y =-4

==> y =-4+2

==> y = -2

x = -1

y = -2
