the value of x = 3

              and y = 1

      working:

  2x - y = 5

3x + 2y = 11

        -y = 5 - 2x   (get rid of minus with Y by multiplying by -1)

       2y = 11 - 3x

         y = -5 + 2

         y = 11/2 - 3x /2

-5 + 2x = 11/2 - 3x/2

     (cross multiply)

2(-5 +2x) = 11 - 3x

-10x + 4x = 11- 3x

  4x + 3x = 11 + 10

          7x = 21

            x = 21/7

            x = 3

 2x - y = 5

2(3) - y = 5

   6 - y = 5

       -y = 5 - 6

        y = 1
