2x + y = 5 \\ y = 5 - 2x -  -  -  - (1) \\ x + y = 4 \\ x + 5 - 2x = 4 -  -  -  -   (from1) \\ 5 - x = 4 \\ x = 1 -  -  -  - (2) \\ substituting \: the \: value \: in \: eq \: 1 \\ y = 5 - 2 \times 1 \\ y = 5 - 2 \\ y = 3

Answer:

2x+y=5...__________ (i)

x+y=4...___________ (ii)

Subtract equation (i) from (ii),we get:-

2x+y=5

- x +y=4

-. -. -

__________

x=1

therefore,substituting the value of x in equation (i),we get:-

2×1+y=5

y=5-2

y=3

Hence,x=1 and y=3
