( 2x + y , x - 2y ) = ( 3 , 4 )

equating both sides : 2x + y = 3 ;   x - 2y = 4

 2x + y = 3  ⇔  4x + 2y = 6                                [both sides multiplied by 2]

 Adding equation 1 and 2

                     4x + 2y = 6

                        x - 2y = 4

                 +  ____________

                      5x + 0 = 10                   5x = 10 ⇒  x = 10/5 = 2

Put the value of x in any equation to get the value of y

  2 - 2y = 4   ⇒    2 - 4 = 2y   ⇒   -2 = 2y  ⇒  -2/2 = y  ⇒  -1 = y

x = 2  ; y = -1
