Given (2x² - 5y²) : xy = 1 : 3

(2x² - 5y²) / xy = 1 / 3

6x² - 15y² = xy

6x²- xy - 15y² = 0

(3x - 5y) (2x + 3y) = 0

3x - 5y = 0. or 2x + 3y = 0

3x = 5y or 2x = -3y

x / y = 5 / 3 or x / y = -3 / 2.

But x : y is not defined for negative values of x or y

Hence, x : y = 5 : 3.
