Solution :

Given two expressions are,

First expression = 2x² - x + 14

Second expression = 5x - 3x² + 8

i ) Subtracting second expression

from first , we get

2x² - x + 14 - ( 5x - 3x² + 8 )

= 2x² - x + 14 - 5x + 3x² - 8

= 2x² + 3x² - x - 5x + 14 - 8

= ( 2 + 3 )x² + ( -1 - 5 )x + 6

= 5x² - 6x + 6

ii ) Subtracting first expression from

second expression, we get

5x - 3x² + 8 - ( 2x² - x + 14 )

= 5x - 3x² + 8 - 2x² + x - 14

= -3x² - 2x² + 5x + x + 8 - 14

= ( -3 - 2 )x² + ( 5 + 1 )x - 6

= -5x² + 6x - 6
