In the age of three and a half years, Ved became blind. In the beginning, the family members got shocked by his blindness. When neighbours and relatives came to their house to show their sympathy his father took a transfer from Lahore to Karnal. After settling in the new house, his mother called various pandits and hakims to offer prayers and find some remedy for this disease. But when his father became furious with his mother's activities he communicated Dr. RM Halder, who was the Principal of Dadar School for the Blind in Bombay for his care.
