I m sorry I have done it wrong....
in The 4th step it would be
2x= 8
x=4
then substituting in 1 (or 2)
y = 12/2
y = 6

2y = 16-x
x-2y = -8
if we subsittue 2y=16-x in x-2y = -8, we get
x-(16-x) = -8
x-16+x = -8
2x-16 = -8
transposing -16 to rhs,
2x=-8+16
2x=8
x=4
