3.0 g of magnesium was added to 12.0g of ethanoic acid.
Mg + 2CH 3 COOH → (CH3COO)2Mg + H 2
The mass of one mole of Mg is 24g.
The mass of one mole of CH3COOH is 60g.

How many moles of hydrogen were formed?

Answer:

Mg+ 2CH3COOH ----> (CH3COO)2 Mg + H2

1 mole of Mg reacts 2 moles of CH3COOH to produce 1 mole of H2

Mg:CH3COOH= 1:

Mass of one mole of Mg= 24g , 3 gm Mg= 0.125 mole

Mass of one mole of CH3COOH= 60g, 12 gm of CH3COOH = 0.2 moles

here Mg:CH3COOH= 0.125 : 0.2 = 1: 1.6

that means, amount og Mg is more than CH3COOH. So few amount of Mg will left but CH3COOH will react completely

2 moles of CH3COOH produces 1 mole of H2

0.2 moles of CH3COOH produces 1/2*0.2=0.1 moles H2

0.1 moles H2 will form
