Given : fencing of a rectangular garden is 18 m long

To Find :  maximum area (in m²) of the garden,

Solution:

Length = L  m

Breadth = B  m

2(L + B)  = Perimeter

=> 2(L + B) = 18

=> L + B = 9

=> B = 9 - L

Length  L   Breadth B        Area = LB

1                    8                      8

2                   7                      14

3                   6                      18

4                   5                       20

5                   4                       20

6                   3                      18

7                  2                       14

8                  1                         8

Hence maximum area = 20  m²
