Given:

3 1/7 +(-5/14) + (-7/12) +2 3/4

To find:

Simplify

Solution:

3\frac{1}{7} + (-\frac{5}{14} )+ (-\frac{7}{12} ) + 2\frac{3}{4}

we will first convert the mixed fractions into simple fractions

= \frac{22}{7} + (-\frac{5}{14} )+ (-\frac{7}{12} ) + \frac{11}{4}

= \frac{22}{7} - \frac{5}{14} - \frac{7}{12}  + \frac{11}{4}

taking the L.C.M. of 7, 14, 12 and 4 which is 84

= \frac{264 - 30 - 49 + 231}{84}

as per the rule of BODMAS, we will add first and then subtract

= \frac{495 - 30 - 49}{84}

= \frac{416}{84}

on dividing both the numerator and denominator by 4

= \frac{104}{21}

we will now convert the simple fraction into mixed fractions

= \bold{4\frac{20}{21} }

Thus, 3\frac{1}{7} + (-\frac{5}{14} )+ (-\frac{7}{12} ) + 2\frac{3}{4} = \underline{\bold{4\frac{20}{21} }}.
