The eigen values are -1,1,3

Explanation:

  • Given Matrix A is        \left[\begin{array}{ccc}2&1&1\\2&3&4\\-1&-1&-2\end{array}\right]
  • Therefore we use the Formula  |A-\lambda I| = 0

Solution:

\left[\begin{array}{ccc}2-\lambda&1&1\\2&3-\lambda&4\\0-1&-1&-2-\lambda\end{array}\right] =0

\therefore (2-\lambda)[(3-\lambda)(-2-\lambda)+4]-1[-4-2\lambda+4]+[-2+3-\lambda]=0\\\\\therefore (2-\lambda)[\lambda^2 -\lambda-2]+\lambda+1=0\\\\\therefore \lambda = (-1), 1, 3

Therefore, Eigenvalues of matrix A are −1,1,3
