2x – 3y = 9 .....(I)

2x + y = 13 .....(II)

Subtracting (II) from (I) we get

– 3y − y = 9 − 13

⇒−4y=−4⇒y=1

Putting this value in (I) we get

2x−3(1)=9⇒2x=9+3=12⇒x=122=6

Thus, (x, y) = (6, 1)
