Answer:

Lcm of denominators 8&18=72. 2.7/8×9/9=49/72, 17/18×4/4=68/72. therefore 49/72<68/72. hence17/18>7/8.

Pythagorean triples are a2+b2 = c2 where a, b and c are the three positive integers. These triples are represented as (a,b,c). Here, a is the perpendicular, b is the base and c is the hypotenuse of the right-angled triangle.

We get the Pythagorean triplets by using the general formula

2m, m2 – 1, m2 + 1

Let us consider m2 – 1 = 8

⇒ m2 = 8 + 1

m2 = 9

m = 3

So

2m = 2 × 3 = 6 and

m2 + 1 = 9 + 1

m2 + 1 = 10

∴ The triplet is (6, 8, 10) but 8 is not the smallest number of this triplet.

So let us consider

2m = 8

m = 4

Here we get

m2 – 1 = 16 – 1

m2 – 1 = 15

m2 + 1 = 16 + 1

m2 + 1 = 17

∴ The triplet is (8,15,17) and 8 as the smallest member of the triplet.
